Effective battery thermal management systems are required to keep lithium-ion cells in a specific temperature range to maximize performance, cost and safety. AllCell’s phase change material (PCM) acts as a thermal capacitor to reduce the energy required for the battery to thermally manage itself with air or liquid systems.   • Efficiency: In 95% of operating conditions, a minimal amount of PCM can absorb the entire amount of heat generated during an EV charge/discharge cycle. When preconditioning is available, PCM will eliminate need for active thermal management while driving.
  • Cost: HEV battery thermal management system can be sized to meet average heat load rather than peak heat load. This reduces component cost, design complexity, and noise issues.
  • Cost: EV battery and battery thermal management system can be downsized due to efficiency gains. The reduced weight further increases the efficiency of the vehicle.
  • Volume: Less spacing required between cells due to increased heat capacity and reduced instantaneous heat removal requirements
  • Reliability: Simplification or elimination of liquid cooling components reduces risk of leak or component failure.
