Lithium-ion is the battery of the future for hybrid electric and pure electric automobiles. In comparison to current lead acid car batteries and nickel metal hydride batteries used in hybrid electric vehicles, Li-ion offers a higher energy density, longer life cycle, as well as reduced size and weight.  However, significant concerns about the battery’s safety (thermal runaway leading to fires and explosions), cost, and cycle life have prevented its use.  These issues must be addressed before a market-wide switch to lithium-ion powered transportation can occur.

Tested and Proven Results
The safety and performance of AllCell’s automotive solutions have been confirmed in field tests where we successfully converted a Ford Escape into a plug-in hybrid powered by an AllCell PCM protected Li-ion battery.  Other applications have included the conversion of a Global Electric Motorcar (GEM car) to run on a PCM protected Li-ion battery pack instead of a lead acid battery.
